Where to Travel in Thailand – North vs South

Thailand is a very popular tourist destination for travellers from all corners of the planet. The country boasts many different landscapes – mountains, jungle, country-side, and beaches! And then there’s the incredible cuisine, ancient culture, intriguing history and much more – there’s something to satisfy all curiosities. If you have enough time, we highly recommend that you travel throughout the entire country, not just the coast. This is especially true if you’re having a hard time deciding on what you want to see and what you’re okay passing on. That said, if you’re on a tight timeline, you’ll want to stick to one area. So where should you travel in Thailand? We guess that totally depends on what you’re looking for! Let’s dive a little deeper into what each area has to offer so you can make this “tough” decision.

Thailand – Region Breakdown

Just like most countries, Thailand has huge differences between the northern and southern parts. One is not better than the other, they simply offer such polarizing experiences that you want to make sure the area you pick to travel in Thailand is right for you.

Northern Thailand is a vast landscape of mountains and valleys, basically a backpacker’s paradise. The jungles offer the perfect place to see exotic animals. Southern Thailand has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, where you can lounge all day with a fruity drink in your hand.

Where to Travel in Thailand

Northern Thailand

If you would prefer jungles over the ocean, then northern Thailand is for you. One of the biggest tourists attractions is the elephant sanctuary. You’ll be able to get up close to see just how magnificent these animals are.

Northern Thailand has a much calmer atmosphere. You’ll be lost in the beauty of the nature and it’s the perfect escape from your busy life. Chiang Mai is the largest city in the north. It has hundreds of breathtaking Buddhist temples, including Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang as well as so much more to explore. These parts of Thailand are rich in history and culture.

Southern Thailand

When you think about the perfect vacation, does it need to include a beach? If that’s the case, then we urge you to check out southern Thailand. There are white sandy beaches and gorgeous turquoise waters wherever you go! You also have the choice to stay on land or explore the waters. Some of the best snorkelling spots in Thailand are in this area. One of the popular activities is to go on an island hopping cruise. You’ll be able to tour around islands and jump into the water at each stop!

If you’re looking to have fun and party until the early hours of the morning, you’ll be happy to know that the nightlife in southern Thailand is amazing! Many bars are open late and there’s plenty of transportation to get you home safe in the wee hours.

The food is mainly fresh seafood, so if you’re not a fan, then the cuisine of northern Thailand might better suit your taste. However, all throughout the country, there’s plenty of delicious tropical fruit for drinks and dessert. Thai cuisine is legendary with its spicy, sweet and tangy mix of flavours. Rest assured, it’ll all taste so much better than anything you can get back home!

If your plan is to travel in Thailand, you will have an awesome vacation, no matter where you land. Remember, if you’re looking to get in touch with nature and check out historic landmarks then northern Thailand is for you. Whereas, if you want to party on the beach all day and keep it going all night, then stick to southern Thailand. Each has a unique vibe, plenty of cool experiences and incredible memories just waiting to be made!

Expect Some Excitement if you Plan to Travel to Krabi, Thailand

There are few places in the world that have as many things to offer visitors as Krabi, Thailand. Of course, you’ll find some of the best beaches in the world on the coral-fringed islands around Krabi – some of them uninhabited. And then there is the sunny, warm weather to enjoy those beaches most of the year. But the Krabi landscape is also built for thrill seekers who like to rock climb, kayak and snorkel. Not to mention that much of the province has been developed into several national parks, offering inland scenic attractions like waterfalls, caves and hot springs. When you travel in Krabi, Thailand, you’ll also be met by warm and friendly people, who are proud to share the details of their history and rich culture with you.

Krabi History is Fascinating

If you’re fascinated by history or geology, this southern area of Thailand contains what is likely the country’s oldest settled area, and it’s believed humans have lived in this area since pre-historic times! In the many cliffs and caves around the region, explorers have found ancient colour paintings, stone tools, pottery and skeletal remains believed to be thousands of years old. At one point a long, long time ago, much of Krabi was under the surrounding sea. That’s led to the discovery of the world’s earliest anthropoid fossils – dated at 35 million years – which are now part of the “Shell Cemetery” site between Krabi Town and Ai Nang district.

Discover some Amazing Food and Culture

Despite being a fairly major tourist destination now, Krabi Town has managed to maintain it’s ‘local’ feel and has not changed drastically. You’ll see fishing boats on the river running though the town, with fishermen bringing in their days catches for the restaurants. It’s that authentic taste of Thailand that makes travel in Krabi, Thailand so attractive.

As well, a night market on weekend evenings will expose you to local artisans and many types of food, including the very popular coconut ice-cream. If you’re a real foodie, there are Thai cookery schools to investigate, where locals with years of cooking experience teach you how to make the delicious Thai dishes.

Climb to New Heights

The oldest limestone land bridge in the world was formed in southern Thailand during the Ice Age. As a result, rock climbers from all over the world travel to Krabi, Thailand to tackle the challenging limestone rocks that are plentiful in this part of the world.

The rock faces at one of the islands around Krabi, Railay Beach, are the scene each April for a popular rock climbing festival. And if you think you’d like to try learning how to rock climb, there several rock climbing schools to choose from, including many that cater to beginner climbers.

It’s clear that you’ll find an adventure for everyone when you travel to Krabi Thailand. You can be sporty and adventurous, discover new food and also find time to lay on the beach and relax in one of the most beautiful scenic parts of the world. The Krabi history, and its people, are fascinating!  It’s worth noting that the best time to visit is between November and April as the weather in the South of Thailand can be unpredictable but with many places now opening all year you will always find something to do. Let Krabi Sunset Cruises help you plan that next adventure today.

The Best Tours – Krabi, Thailand

Everyone has a travel bucket list. It might be crazy long and well-researched or it might simply be photos you save to a travel folder while scrolling through Instagram. Either way, you know where you want to go as soon as those next holidays come up, and when you get there… it feels surreal. That moment happened for me when I landed in Thailand. It has been near the top of my travel list since I first created that document, and I wanted to see and do as much as possible! There were a few places in Thailand that were a must visit, including: Bangkok, Phuket, Ko Samui and Krabi. My last stop before returning home was in Krabi, for what I can now say was the best tour ever.

Krabi Island Tours - Phang Nga Bay

Why Thailand?

Thailand was on my travel bucket list because it always seemed to look like a make-believe paradise. The culture, the picturesque beaches, crystal clear ocean water… I could go on forever. So, if I ever got the chance to actually go to Thailand I wanted to make every second count, obviously! I wanted to see the popular beaches, walk through the local markets and taste the delicious Thai cuisine. It’s a popular vacation spot with a ton of top destinations.

After I picked all the big, go-to tourist destinations, I started looking for smaller tours. Ones that offer to give you a chance to see the beauty of Thailand and Krabi had the best tours for this. I stumbled across these island hopping cruises as I was diving deeper into different places that I might want to check out. I knew I wanted to chill on the beach, but I didn’t think I’d be able to actually hit the open sea. Yep, I’m in.

Best Tours in Krabi

I thought the surreal moment happened for me when I landed in Thailand. It was… but it wasn’t “the moment”. The moment when you’re on a trip and feel like you just pushed pause for a second to truly soak in everything that’s happening around out. My moment happened on this island hopping cruise. I went out for a day on the water on this ship that looked like it was straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean. It was the first cruise I have ever been on that recommended you jump ship and enjoy the water! I was able to snorkel around at each island and float carefree with friends.

I went for the sunset cruise, which means I was able to float on the calm waters as the sky burned bright red, orange and pink and reflected perfectly on the water. If you’re in any way a stop-and-look-at-the-sunset person, you NEED to see this. It’s beyond beautiful and so peaceful.

If Thailand is on your travel bucket list I highly recommend checking out Krabi Sunset Cruises when you finally get there. It was one of the best tours in Krabi, by far. If Thailand isn’t on your travel bucket list… you should just go ahead and add it right now! There will be no regrets about exploring this beautiful area and everything else it has to offer.

Taking a Leap – My Trip in Krabi, Thailand.

When I was planning my trip in Krabi, Thailand I wanted to make sure that I was able to do the “typical” tourist spots as well as some of the off the beaten path adventures. It didn’t take long for Krabi Sunset Cruises to come up once I started looking. The cruise isn’t just about sitting back and relaxing, there are a ton of chances for you to get out and explore the islands and waters of Thailand. I figured I wouldn’t venture off the boat, but either way I wanted to do it.

Cruise Activities

One of the first things mentioned when the cruise started were all of the stops we’d be making. The crew really wanted to make sure everyone knew their options for getting the most out of each stop. Right from the beginning it felt like it would be the best trip in Krabi. You could grab a kayak, snorkel gear, stand up paddles boards… whatever you wanted to use to explore the waters. I was still totally okay with staying put on the boat. But then, someone says that we can JUMP from the upper deck into the water.

The Leap of a Lifetime

Heights are one of my top fears. I get nervous about looking out apartment windows that are on the third floor. Right after “absolutely no way” ran through my head a few people said they were in. It looked unreal! The crew took a video of everyone when they jumped for what would likely be an Instagram highlight of the year for them. Those brave enough to do a backflip got a free cocktail after to celebrate.

All right, that’s pretty cool. Maybe I am down? I mean, I’m on a trip in Krabi Thailand, having the cruise of a lifetime… why not? So I get on the upper deck and completely psych myself out. My legs are already shaking. What was I thinking?! I’ve never jumped off of anything before. That’s when the rest of the people on the cruise helped me out.

After plenty of pep talks from those who jumped before me I made up my mind and jumped before I could change it. BEST. FEELING. EVER. I am so happy I set aside my fears and enjoyed this cruise to the absolute fullest. It was a phenomenal feeling. After the jump I kicked back and enjoyed a celebratory drink while posting the video of me jumping. There’s no way any of my friends would believe I did this without proof!

Are You In?

If you’re looking for a trip in Krabi and want to do something a little different you need to check out Krabi Sunset Cruises. It is by far on of the best adventures I have ever done. I still can’t believe I got to jump off the upper deck of a Chinese Junk ship into the Andaman Sea. The crew makes this experience so much more than a cruise. You have a chance to explore the waters around every island you stop at. It’s a nonstop day of exploring one of the prettiest parts of Thailand. This was an experience of a lifetime and I’m so happy I took the leap!

From island hopping to full moon parties to Khao San Road, Thailand has made a name for itself as one of the best party destinations in the world! But while millennials may get most of the credit online, Thailand’s exciting party scene has something no matter what your drivers license says. And whether you want to party it up, relax in the sun or do backflips into the ocean, a boat cruise is your best bet for getting in on the action. Why Take a Thailand Boat Cruise

To Enjoy The Scenery

The south of Thailand is renowned for it’s stunning coastlines and crystal blue waters. Krabi province, in particular, boasts white sand beaches straight out of a movie (literally). Taking a Thailand boat cruise in Krabi will have you feeling like you’ve sailed into paradise. The amazing weather and the gorgeous scenery is something you can enjoy at any age.

During the tour guests will have a chance to explore each location as well as time to swim, snorkel and sunbathe.

To Party

Whether you’re 20 or 80, a sunset boat cruise is the perfect way to make new friends and let loose for the evening. Plus, you can do it all while enjoying a beautiful surrounding.

To Relax

There’s certainly no age limit to relaxing, and there’s also no better place to relax than on a boat cruise along the coast of Thailand. You’ll feel the tension melt away as you soak up the sun and breathe in the salty ocean breeze. Feel free to lie back on a white sand beach or, if you’d prefer,  float in the warm Thai waters. And whatever you do, don’t forget to catch the tropical sunset across the horizon.

Hit the Water in Thailand with a Krabi Sailing Tour!

What’s the first thing you picture after reading the words “boat tour”? Maybe a ferry chugging across a small lake? Or a pontoon boat floating down a river? Well, you need to shake things up a bit with a boat tour in Krabi, Thailand. Thailand puts a whole different spin on a boat tour, and that spin actually makes it more of a sailing adventure. There’s an ancient Chinese junk boat, island hopping all day long, and bioluminescent plankton. By now, a Krabi sailing tour has probably made it onto your bucket list, so here’s what you need to know.

What can you expect on a Krabi Sailing Tour?

It’s not “just a boat tour”. But why not? Well, first off, you’re in Thailand. The crystal clear Andaman Sea is yours to explore along with all of the other breathtaking scenery. With all of the amazing sights to take in, you might be worried that the tour will fly by. But you won’t be rushed around to all of the sights in an hour or two. You’re on vacay, so you’ll cruise around the islands for an entire afternoon and evening. Seven sweet hours of nonstop adventure.

What’s Different?

It’s on an Ancient Chinese Junk boat. Don’t worry, it’s not a fancy name for a garbage barge. It’s basically an old sailing boat that looks like it’s straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean. Typically used to transport trades and other goods, the Junk boat at Krabi Sunset Cruises has since retired to sail you and other adventure seekers around Railay.

The Junk is pretty cool, but you don’t have to stay on it for the entire Krabi sailing tour. There are three stops along the way where you have a chance to get in the water. There are full face and regular snorkel gear you can grab, even goggles with prescription lenses, so you can see the beauty above and below the sea. You also have a chance to see the bioluminescent plankton when you stop at Railay West Beach and Ao Nang.

Other activities while on the tour?

If you don’t want to want to swim or snorkel there are tons of other things to do at each stop! How about grabbing a tandem sea kayak to explore the islands with a friend? Or enjoying the views from a stand up paddle board? For those who don’t want to paddle at all, there are inner tubes for you to float on while enjoying the sea and sunshine.

Finally, what kind of “boat tour” ends with the picturesque sunset over the Andaman sea? None, but a Krabi sailing tour does! You’ll probably feel like you’re in a movie as the sun fills the sky with burning shades of red and orange.

It’s safe to say that these reasons make you want to get on a plane right now. You’ll enjoy some of the top sights Krabi, Thailand has to offer on an ancient Chinese Junk boat engrained with hundreds of years of history. Sailing around for seven hours makes this trip feel like a true vacation instead of rushed tourist experience. The freedom of exploring the waters at each stop is the cherry on top. So, dreaming about a Krabi sailing tour? Get in touch with Krabi Sunset Cruises and we’ll hook you up with a tour of a lifetime!
